Capacity Building in Patras!

  • MILE

MILE partner HOU organized a two day Capacity Building event in the 9th and 10th of December 2019 on the challenges facing employers and trainers when integrating migrants in the Greek labour market.

Participants had the opportunity to be informed about the main findings of the MILE survey; including main challenges in Europe and in Greece, best practices that could be transferred in the Greek market and suggestions by the employers on efficiently recruiting, hiring and employing migrants.

Keynote speakers discussed significant issues concerning application for job permits and how employers may help speed up the process; legal pitfalls that employers need to avoid and gaps in the Greek legislation system concerning migrant employee healthcare and social security.

How to legally address discrimination episodes in the workplace was a subject that attracted particular attention.

Job profiling of the migrant employee according to Greek employers (competencies, skills and training needs) was also discussed.

The Mediterranean labor model of migration (how migrant training affects and is affected by socioeconomic factors), updates on recent changes in training aspects of cultural mediation for migrant employees; and methodological, sectorial and demographic considerations in migrant training, were among other issues presented.

Overall, the event showed that there is a need for more information actions in Greece especially on legislation issues.
